Tons of Free Videos To Watch On Our iPod

Posted on Mar 22, 2010 under free ipod videos, ipod accessories | No Comment

We have blogged about Wizzard and Juice but not really given much thought to what else is being produced for viewing in this format. We decided to do a bit of a recce and see what else is on offer. We are pleased to let you know there is a LOT out there - all for free! Today's post is about PodcastAlley - which has thousands video podcasts  -  all free.  Check the following demo of one of the available video podcast feeds that you can easily subscribe to and watch on your iPod. Just click on any of the titles to see what you could be watching on your iPod (just click the x to turn off the ads): [inline][/inline] Here is the link to the  video podcast feed for the ModTV (above) The only shortcoming to the site is finding the video you want. The audios are organized by genre - so you can browse by the type you want - but considering that there are thousands in some categories, this is not as big a help as we really need. The video podcasts don't seem to be organized by any kind of logic - so its a case of browsing and hoping to some extent. This is a pity as there are some really great video feeds in the list. Same problem at both Wizzard and iTunes. Actually, iTunes is the best of a bad lot. What is it with  these sites that can't (or won't?) add a simple search function to their sites???

Free iPod Videos Are Great But…..!

Posted on Mar 09, 2010 under iPod Podcasts | No Comment http://www.uncp.edu/pineneedle/podcast/images/PodcastLogo300x300.pngThere is more than one way to get free iPod Videos (as you will discover if you check our archives!) Did you know that there are thousands of free quality video podcasts for us to enjoy? Not just educational stuff (which its easy to think podcasts are about) - entertainment - comedy, for example. But before we go further with this, let me just address two issues that can limit how keen people are to use podcasts. Browsing through Twitter to see what podcasts are causing a stir when I came across this request:

Cartoon Network Video Podcast

How do I get podcast off my ipod but keep them on my itunes?
I remember now that I've seen this question in one form or another on forums etc. So figure I'll take the time to cover it quickly in a post - for those visitors who are keen podcast listeners and whose iPod hard disk is cramped up from the size of all their the podcasts - listen up:
Just make a playlist on the iPod and drag the podcasts you want to delete to that playlist. Tracks can be deleted from the iPod by selecting them in the playlist and then using the Alt and Delete keys (Mac or Windows).
Another question that I see often asked in the forums is
how do I get rid of podcasts from iTunes that I no longer want?
iTunes is organised so that we can tell it whether to keep podcasts in our library. 1) Browse the podcasts that you have downloaded,  and you’ll see a settings button at the bottom of the jukebox window:

Podcasts on iPod

2) Click it, and you will see a new window open with several options to help you organize your iPod library. One of these is "episodes to keep".  The iTunes guideline tells us simply:
If you want episodes to be deleted only manually, choose “All episodes.” To keep each episode until you watch it and then automatically delete it, choose “All unplayed episodes.” To automatically delete all older episodes, choose “Most recent episode” or “Last 2-10 episodes."
Just a couple of easy tips to help keep your iPod and iTunes podcast library well organized! By the way, in case you missed it, our last post had links to thousands of comedy video podcasts. So clear out your iPod and get ready for some fun!

Free Romance Music For iPods

Posted on Jan 05, 2010 under free ipod downloads, iPod Music | No Comment With Valentine's day the next big event on our calendars it seems a good time to share our find of free romantic music. Jerry Pippin - a radio announcer from yesteryear - has recreated this special programs dedicated to romance - the old fashioned way! Jerry Pippin - who seems to be a real character - has put together Jerry Pippin's Words and Music of Love - A Sentimental Journey on the Street of Dreams. Have a listen to some sweet music. He has also kindly provided an easy  guide to help us download the music to our iPods. But be warned - the instructions only work if you are using IE - annoyingly, Firefox does not let us do this! If you scroll down you will see that Jerry has several podcasts on this page that we can download - amounting to a coupe of hours of the kind of music that's hard to find these days. Real classics, real romance!

Free iPod downloads - of a different kind!

Posted on Jul 26, 2009 under free ipod downloads | No Comment http://static.zooomr.com/images/6121412_9efea0fa4d.jpgOn our blog you will find heaps of excellent ways to get free iPod movies, http://disneyinsiderssecrets.com.s3.amazonaws.com/images/right-arrow.giffree iPod Videos and TV shows, free Podcasts, free iPod Music and even free ebooks! These are the usual things we are looking for when we think of iPod Downloads. But a lesser known kind of download is becoming increasingly popular - especially with some of the big entertainment/leasure companies like Disney and Sheraton - the notecast! "What the heck is a notecast?" - you say! Well, glad you asked.... According to the experts (those who develop them):
A Notescast is a powerful organized collection of interactive copy embedded with links to related photos, video, audio and additional interactive text, all of which installs to your iPod's "Notes" feature.  Because it installs to the iPod's Notes feature, it's called a. . ."Notescast."
Okay!!!! SO, now you know! Well, put in ordinary user language it just means that we get information onto our iPods that includes links to images and videos. And depending on what the information is, that can be really useful. For example, "Walt Disney World Secrets" has been produced as a notescast that can be very useful for anyone visiting Disneyland! Similarly, Sheraton have produced notecast that provides a complete guide to the luxurious Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa in Hawaii with 81 interactive pages of copy and some 65 photos. Planning on hiking the Yasemite Valley - now you can also notecast it!

iPod Podcasts - Free iPod Downloads that Rock! - Part I

Posted on Jan 23, 2009 under free downloads, ipod downloads | No Comment ipod podcastsiPods are great music systems and that will always be their main purpose. But for any commuter, their ability to play podcasts has to be appreciated as well. Especially when there are so many fantastic free podcasts available. Before looking at some of the great podcasts that are available (some on iTunes, but mostly elsewhere), its worth taking a look at some alternative ways to get the podcasts onto our iPod. By "alternative" we mean "alternative to iTunes". Because although iTunes is widely used, we like to promote "non shop" alternatives. We reckon that competition will help to keep Apple honest and at the forefront of design - the way we like it! Juice ReceiverOne highly regarded podcast receiver program is Juice (previously known as ipodder) which has been downloaded 2.5 million times! Thats the software we will be using to show you how easy it is to get great podcasts to listen to on your iPod (without using the iTunes shop). First up, download the Juice software (takes mere seconds). Then open and click on "files"and choose "preferences".

Juice

Now just select Windows Media Player. [BTW, while we are in "preferences" just click "general" and you will see that the podcast files get put into C:..\documents\My Received Podcasts. You need to know this to access the files directly (we changed the location to desktop for convenience).

Juice

OK, now you are ready to download some cool podcasts. Now Juice allows us to:
select podcasts to subscribe to in two different ways: Either clicking the selection button to see a directory of available podcasts or enter a URL for a podcast you've found on your own.
We will be using the second method and have chosen a great podcast site to use as an example. Because lets face it, learning a language while we are commuting just makes sense - we are going to subscribe to and download "one minute" language courses that are available from radiolingua for FREE! To do this, we go to their podcast page and select one of the "coffee break" language podcasts or one of the 12 "one minute" language courses they offer - in French, Japanese, Mandarin, Russian, etc. For this demo we chose Spanish Coffee Break. To get the RSS feed for this course its just a few simple clicks. 1)Click the "coffee break Spanish" image, then 2)click "Get the Coffee Break Spanish RSS feed" (remember we are deliberately avoiding iTunes here), located in the right hand sidebar 3) Copy the URL for the page and then open JUICE 3)click the "add new feed" button, and paste the URL for the feed and click save!

Juice

Now you have a bunch of Spanish lessons that you have subscribed to. To download them to Windows Media, just click the "subscriptions" button and you will see:

Juice

the lessons listed. Check the lesson you want to hear (or all of them, for that matter) and click the download button

Juice

Its now downloaded and can be played on Windows Media or loaded to your iPod! (The files can be found in "My Received Podcasts" located in Document and will be named "Learn Spanish With Coffee Break Spanish") If this seems slow - believe me it's but the work of seconds once you have done it once!

Download Juice, the cross-platform podcast receiver

Now - and get this - its all FREE - you can use your commute time to learn that language you always wanted to learn! Radiolingua have over a dozen different language lesson programs that they offer for free by podcast! We will preview some of the other great free podcasts that are around in future posts. So keep watching! And do share this post with anyone YOU know has been wanting to learn a language!

Ipod left out of the limelight at Macworld

Posted on Jan 09, 2009 under ipod accessories, ipod software | 4 Comments Macworld Opens with Major New Product Announcements ...that are, for iPod, not "major" and, not "new" .

The image “http://farm1.static.flickr.com/136/353227773_4805ee7081.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

Not a particularly impressive event for iPod owners. OK, there were some sessions for educators to promote the use of iPods and/or iPhones in the classroom that may have been of interest to a very select few. But otherwise the event was fairly ho hum for iPod owners. The only "new" products worth mentioning, are the Phoenix iPod Recovery System - designed to:
recover music files, video files, podcasts, audiobooks and other inaccessible media from frozen or damaged equipment.
Stellar Phoenix iPod Recovery screenshot 2But even so, its not "new" . It was reviewed by Softpedia back in August 2008, and anyway, there are other products that do this, so the concept is not new, either. So not a really life altering announcement! Stellar provide a free demo version of the software (you can download from their site). The demo version will repair corrupted and deleted music and video files (not clear if other media files are also repaired with the demo) BUT, you can only save the recovered music and video files by purchasing the full version of the software!! So not sure what the benefits of the free demo are? Perhaps its just a hook to get us to try - then tell us "yes, we have detected 300 music and video files that are corrupted and they are now repaired.... and if you purchase the software you can have them! Still, at $US39.99, that might be worth it? . The second "new" product is, in fact, the debut for:
the 3rd generation of the Hookup- Lanyard, which wirelessly connects the iPod nano or iPod touch to a cell phone
Again, a useful tool - no doubt about it. But 3rd generation is hardly worthy of the title: "major new product"!

Perhaps of more interest is the new iPod Docking station with WiFi streaming capability that Lenntek also plans to release at Macworld. However, whilst this capability may be new to Lenntek, its not new to the iPod world! There are, after all, other docking stations already on the market with these capabilities.

So a disappointing event for iPod owners with little to excite and sadly, nothing worth lining up for hours or days to get!
