Free iPod Music - Original And Free!

Posted on Jul 04, 2010 under free downloads, iPod Music | 8 Comments

user portraitJust a quick post to let you all know about another site we found where we can get some great free - and very original music.

Now, you have to know how to find it - but its easy - and anyway, we are gonna show you how!

Firstly you do have to become a member of the site. The site is called AudioBoo - and as its pretty popular for podcasters, you may even have heard of it.

Then all you have to do is put the kind of music you like into the search bar. We have chosen “rock music” as our search term. And we have gotten a LOT of results - including some music uploaded just a few days ago by the Jersy St Band - album 2: Breaking Radio Silence. Check it out below.

Listen!

There is a heap of other music that you can enjoy as well - and then its “click” and its on your facebook page and with the new Facebook App for iPod Touch, you can then listen to the music on your iPod.

Pretty great - and its sooo easy and did we mention its all free?

Free Music Downloads For iPod

Posted on Apr 07, 2010 under free downloads, iPod Music | 3 Comments

Have you had a look around at what’s available on  iTunes in other countries? There are some very different music and videos (and apps for the Touch)  on offer for download to our iPods. And for those with an account in that country, some great free music that we just cannot get at home.

Take a look at what free music is currently on offer to download to our iPods in some other countries:

Free iPod Music Downloads

Now - as you will soon discover if you decide to check this out further - iTunes does not offer a music store in all countries, so no freebies in those countries. But, as you can see, there are regular freebies available in others.

So the question is: how do we get our hands on these freebies? Well, if you purchase an iTunes card for any of these countries, you can set up an account for yourself there. Now, you need a residential address, so it helps if you have a friend in the country of choice who will let you list their address! Check out iPhonegizmo for more details of how to set up an account this way.

And let us know how this worked for you.

Free iPod Games Demos

Posted on Feb 04, 2010 under free downloads, ipod games | No Comment

Unlike the great selection of free games available for iPod Touch, the games on offer for the non-Touch iPods cost $$$.

Worse still, there are only about 50 games to choose from. And all except two of them (Reversi and Chinese Checkers that cost $.99) cost $4.99 - at least, in the US.  And to add insult to injury, it is quite hard to find these games in iTunes. (To save you the aggravation, the iPodbomb team have provided  iTunes link for you).

But, lets face it, these $$ games are no comparison with even the free games on offer for the Touch. It just ain’t fair!!

Well, we have something to ease the pain a little. Thirteen of the non-Touch iPod games are made by Electronic Arts (yep, one of the game developers invited by Apple to preview a game on the about-to-be released iPad). Electronic Arts (Mobile) have kindly provided free iPod Game demos of their games. Which means we can trial these games before we shell out $$ just to find we hate the game! Just download the free demo player, choose the game you want to try out - and play!

iPod Podcasts - Free iPod Downloads that Rock! - Part I

Posted on Jan 23, 2009 under free downloads, ipod downloads | No Comment

ipod podcastsiPods are great music systems and that will always be their main purpose. But for any commuter, their ability to play podcasts has to be appreciated as well. Especially when there are so many fantastic free podcasts available.

Before looking at some of the great podcasts that are available (some on iTunes, but mostly elsewhere), its worth taking a look at some alternative ways to get the podcasts onto our iPod. By “alternative” we mean “alternative to iTunes”. Because although iTunes is widely used, we like to promote “non shop” alternatives. We reckon that competition will help to keep Apple honest and at the forefront of design - the way we like it!

Juice ReceiverOne highly regarded podcast receiver program is Juice (previously known as ipodder) which has been downloaded 2.5 million times! Thats the software we will be using to show you how easy it is to get great podcasts to listen to on your iPod (without using the iTunes shop).

First up, download the Juice software (takes mere seconds). Then open and click on “files”and choose “preferences”.

Juice

Now just select Windows Media Player. [BTW, while we are in “preferences” just click “general” and you will see that the podcast files get put into C:..\documents\My Received Podcasts. You need to know this to access the files directly (we changed the location to desktop for convenience).

Juice

OK, now you are ready to download some cool podcasts. Now Juice allows us to:

select podcasts to subscribe to in two different ways: Either clicking the

selection button to see a directory of available podcasts or enter a URL for a podcast you’ve found on your own.

We will be using the second method and have chosen a great podcast site to use as an example. Because lets face it, learning a language while we are commuting just makes sense - we are going to subscribe to and download “one minute” language courses that are available from radiolingua for FREE!

To do this, we go to their podcast page and select one of the “coffee break” language podcasts or one of the 12 “one minute” language courses they offer - in French, Japanese, Mandarin, Russian, etc. For this demo we chose Spanish Coffee Break. To get the RSS feed for this course its just a few simple clicks.

1)Click the “coffee break Spanish” image, then
2)click “Get the Coffee Break Spanish RSS feed” (remember we are

deliberately avoiding iTunes here), located in the right hand sidebar

3) Copy the URL for the page and then open JUICE

3)click the “add new feed” button, and paste the URL for the feed and click save!

Juice

Now you have a bunch of Spanish lessons that you have subscribed to. To download them to Windows Media, just click the “subscriptions” button and you will see:

Juice

the lessons listed. Check the lesson you want to hear (or all of them, for that matter) and click the download button

Juice

Its now downloaded and can be played on Windows Media or loaded to your iPod! (The files can be found in “My Received Podcasts” located in Document and will be named “Learn Spanish With Coffee Break Spanish”)

If this seems slow - believe me it’s but the work of seconds once you have done it once!

Download Juice, the cross-platform podcast receiver

Now - and get this - its all FREE - you can use your commute time to learn that language you always wanted to learn! Radiolingua have over a dozen different language lesson programs that they offer for free by podcast!

We will preview some of the other great free podcasts that are around in future posts. So keep watching! And do share this post with anyone YOU know has been wanting to learn a language!

iTunes in trouble again!

Posted on Jan 06, 2008 under free downloads, ipod news | No Comment

Business week reports on yet another law suit for Apple. I think many iPod users will have some sympathy with this one, though.

design

The complaint is, basically, that iPod users are stuck with iTunes as a source of music (not true - as you will discover from this blog, there are other choices but most iPod users don’t realize this!)

According to the complaint, Apple has set up their shop so that only Apple hardware can use their music downloads and visa versa!

Add to that the fact that Apple has over 75% market share (up to 90% on some definitions!) then you can see where Apple would be accused of using its market power to fill its own pockets at its customers expense! (and at the same time restrict our choices)

By the way, this neat iTunes logo can be downloaded free from HERE
