Cool New iPod Video

Posted on Sep 20, 2009 under ipod news | 1 Comment

As you can see by our late follow up on the 2009 iPod Event, we saw it pretty much as a non-event. The new iTunes set-up is OK (though no access to Beetles! and no Sir Paul at the event!!). But nothing outa the box, to be honest.

About the only cool feature for the non-touch iPod is that latest new iPod nano has a new built-in video camera,

a larger screen and a pretty cool polished metal finish in a wide range of bright colors.

The announcements for the iPod touch were a bit more interesting, as there was an iPhone 3.1 software update that can be purchased for the iPod Touch (current price for it is now down to $4.95). The main benefits of the new software seem to be: new genius technology that automatically recommends apps based on apps we already own and 30K ringtones to select from (though at $1.29 each, not as good as it sounds).

The new Nano is pretty, though!

Apple’s September iPod Event

Posted on Sep 07, 2009 under ipod news | 1 Comment

Just a quick post to remind you all about the upcoming Apple Sept. 9 iPod event in San Francisco. Themed - as you’ve no doubt heard - “It’s only rock and roll but we like it.'With The Beatles (Remastered)'

There are a lot of rumors floating around - including the possibility that Paul McCartney will be on stage with Steve Jobs at the event to announce the Beetles being released on iTunes! - but instead of repeating them here, we decided to just wait and see! Check back on the 9th for what we reckon is the stuff worth knowing!

Medienevent am 9. SeptemerBut it is interesting that September 9, 2009, is also the day for the worldwide release of  the new digitally remastered catalogue of every Beatles song ever made.

And it is interesting that the Apple event is called “its only rock and roll but…” and that the invite included the dance image above. And its interesting that Jobs will be on the job again.

But, hey, we aren’t going to speculate, are we?…

iPod - a Weapon of mass destruction?

Posted on Apr 21, 2009 under free ipod downloads, ipod news | No Comment

Bulletflight Images Pic1Interestingly, two reports hit the airways today that reveal that iPods are now considered an essential ingredient in the war on (and by) terrorists!

From the BBC UK came the report of a man jailed today over terrorism charges. In his posession was:

a document or record containing information likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism.

How does this relate to iPods? Well, apparently part of the “strong evidence” collected was an iPod!!

Now this might sound nuts - except that coincidentally, Newsweek also reported today on the growing importance of the iPod Touch as “an electronic handheld device”, for the military in Baghdad. Aparently this sophisitcated piece of equipment has actually outsmarted current military devices - cheaper by more than 50% and better! Apparently we can now include “making sense of the reams of data from satellites, drones and ground sensors” as part of its capabilities.

And as you can see from the above image - todays reports are not the first linking iPods to military use.

Makes the name of our blog take on a whole new meaning!

The following video, I think you will agree, was a must-include for this post

celebrity ipods up for grabs

Posted on Feb 28, 2009 under ipod accessories, ipod news | No Comment

Would you like to get a Britney Spears or Ellen Degeneres autographed iPods? - they’re just two of the dozens of iPods that Tonic is auctioning in support of Music Rising.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUYXKD1e5tY

Unless you live there, its easy to forget the devastation that Hurricane Katrine and others have caused in the Gulf region of the US. That’s why its so cool that MusicRising is still working to help the region recover and rebuild itself. It has determined to:

rebuild the musical heart and culture of the Gulf region by replacing the musical instruments and gear that were lost in the Inundation of 2005.

They are currently working to give instruments to churches and schools in this region.

Well, you can”t - its just been auctioned off by MusicRising for $851!

But there are plenty of other celebrity iPods going to be auctioned off over the coming months. Currently you can bid on iPods owned and signed by famous designers: Alice Temperley (London-based fashion designer and creator of Temperly) , Donna Karan (fashion designer and the creator of the DKNY), Marc Ecko (founder of the Marc Ecko clothing line) and Marc Jacobs ( artistic director for Louis Vuitton).

Only four days left to get one of these - with Marc Jacob’s iPod getting to hottest bids. You can get the details on Tonic

Steve Jobs Not Delivering Keynote at Macworld… Apple Stock Reacts By 5.63% Increase!

Posted on Jan 05, 2009 under ipod news | 1 Comment

Which sounds surprising doesn’t it?

Macworld keynotes are a cornerstone of Apple’s business - and a large part of the reason why Apple is so popular among everyone… but there is a good reason why the Apple stock has gone up after Jobs delivered this news….

sick applespacer1.jpgIt’s because people had been speculating for the last 12 months that Jobs was gravely ill - and possibly not long for this world. The speculations arouse because Jobs had been continuously losing weight through out the year - and no one seemed to know why.

Well, when Jobs told investors that he wasn’t speaking at Macworld this year - he also told them why he wasn’t speaking. Apparently, Jobs is suffering from some kind of Hormone imbalance - and that is causing his body not to absorb protein the way it should.

Ultimately it’s not a life threatening problem, and now that it has been diagnosed - Jobs will be well onto his way to recovery in the very near future - but - no keynote this year as he needs to focus on getting healthier - instead of working 120 hours a week like he usually does.

So no Jobs at Macworld this year - will it still be the same? I doubt it (in fact theres no way it can be) but it’s still good news - and hopefully Jobs will be back in the drivers seat next January.

iPod Battery Warning!

Posted on Aug 22, 2008 under ipod news | 1 Comment

Just a brief report for anyone in Japan who is finding that their iPod batteries are over-heating. A recent government report there is warning that these batteries may pose a fire hazard (in fact there has been a report that two people in Japan have suffered minor burns).

The image “http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2276/2110017031_53a35021f1.jpg?v=0” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

Just so you know, Apple Japan are offering to replace faulty batteries:

“We will replace batteries of the first-generation iPod nanos with new ones if customers find that the batteries overheat“

So when you next do a recharge just check to see if it is overheating. Its not clear whether this problem is likely to affect batteries in other countries - so its probably a good idea for us all to do this check!

Hopefully this post can help avoid injury - but don’t be surprised if you can’t get a refund or replacement if the battery proves faulty. Reports are that Apple is less than enthusiastic in its after-sales service.

Free iPod Downloads

Posted on Jul 10, 2008 under ipod news | 5 Comments

The latest news is not good for iPod owners. How many of us have music downloaded to our iPod that some may argue are illegal copies?

According to breaking news from the Guardian, these songs may mean we have to leave our iPod behind when we travel - at least through international airports:Xray of a bag

The heads of the G8 governments, meeting this week, are about to ratify the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (Acta), which - it’s claimed - could let customs agents search your laptop or music player for illegally obtained content.

What they will do if they do find illegal music is not yet clear. But when you consider the recently published University of Hertfordshire study that revealed that the average teenager and student (14 to 24 year olds) have over 800 illegal songs on their MP3, it is clear that this new agreement will certainly keep customs agents very busy!

Looks like the queues at international airports are going to get a lot longer!

iTunes in trouble again!

Posted on Jan 06, 2008 under free downloads, ipod news | No Comment

Business week reports on yet another law suit for Apple. I think many iPod users will have some sympathy with this one, though.

design

The complaint is, basically, that iPod users are stuck with iTunes as a source of music (not true - as you will discover from this blog, there are other choices but most iPod users don’t realize this!)

According to the complaint, Apple has set up their shop so that only Apple hardware can use their music downloads and visa versa!

Add to that the fact that Apple has over 75% market share (up to 90% on some definitions!) then you can see where Apple would be accused of using its market power to fill its own pockets at its customers expense! (and at the same time restrict our choices)

By the way, this neat iTunes logo can be downloaded free from HERE
