Tons of Free Videos To Watch On Our iPod

Posted on Mar 22, 2010 under free ipod videos, ipod accessories | No Comment

We have blogged about Wizzard and Juice but not really given much thought to what else is being produced for viewing in this format. We decided to do a bit of a recce and see what else is on offer. We are pleased to let you know there is a LOT out there - all for free! Today's post is about PodcastAlley - which has thousands video podcasts  -  all free.  Check the following demo of one of the available video podcast feeds that you can easily subscribe to and watch on your iPod. Just click on any of the titles to see what you could be watching on your iPod (just click the x to turn off the ads): Here is the link to the  video podcast feed for the ModTV (above) The only shortcoming to the site is finding the video you want. The audios are organized by genre - so you can browse by the type you want - but considering that there are thousands in some categories, this is not as big a help as we really need. The video podcasts don't seem to be organized by any kind of logic - so its a case of browsing and hoping to some extent. This is a pity as there are some really great video feeds in the list. Same problem at both Wizzard and iTunes. Actually, iTunes is the best of a bad lot. What is it with  these sites that can't (or won't?) add a simple search function to their sites???

Unusual Free Downloads for our iPods.

Posted on Mar 17, 2010 under free ipod downloads | 1 Comment Some time ago we posted about a neat free guide that could be downloaded to our iPods - a guide to Glacier National Park - with over 110 pages and 60 photos. We notice that the guide is now selling for $.99 but the developers have another  free guide on offer now . They have a handy new "Notescast" (the format they use) covering the 11 most popular hikes in Yosemite Valley. It comes complete with photos. You can download it for free from this link. There are some other free downloads from TimeStream that could be of interest to a wide audience (because they are so very different) read 10 enchanting stories from Grimm's Fairy Tales on your iPod wherever you go! Plus we can download - for free -  Lewis Carol's, "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and in a wildly different genre, there is even  "Rubber to the Road" with 44 Classic Portland (OR) cycling routes -including interactive text with route descriptions and some 240 Photos. If you haven't used notecasts before, then you need to know how to set up your iPod to enable this feature. Its real easy. Just follow the instructions given at  About - it takes, like two minutes to do and is super easy. And remember to SHARE -->

Free iPod Videos Are Great But…..!

Posted on Mar 09, 2010 under iPod Podcasts | No Comment http://www.uncp.edu/pineneedle/podcast/images/PodcastLogo300x300.pngThere is more than one way to get free iPod Videos (as you will discover if you check our archives!) Did you know that there are thousands of free quality video podcasts for us to enjoy? Not just educational stuff (which its easy to think podcasts are about) - entertainment - comedy, for example. But before we go further with this, let me just address two issues that can limit how keen people are to use podcasts. Browsing through Twitter to see what podcasts are causing a stir when I came across this request:

Cartoon Network Video Podcast

How do I get podcast off my ipod but keep them on my itunes?
I remember now that I've seen this question in one form or another on forums etc. So figure I'll take the time to cover it quickly in a post - for those visitors who are keen podcast listeners and whose iPod hard disk is cramped up from the size of all their the podcasts - listen up:
Just make a playlist on the iPod and drag the podcasts you want to delete to that playlist. Tracks can be deleted from the iPod by selecting them in the playlist and then using the Alt and Delete keys (Mac or Windows).
Another question that I see often asked in the forums is
how do I get rid of podcasts from iTunes that I no longer want?
iTunes is organised so that we can tell it whether to keep podcasts in our library. 1) Browse the podcasts that you have downloaded,  and you’ll see a settings button at the bottom of the jukebox window:

Podcasts on iPod

2) Click it, and you will see a new window open with several options to help you organize your iPod library. One of these is "episodes to keep".  The iTunes guideline tells us simply:
If you want episodes to be deleted only manually, choose “All episodes.” To keep each episode until you watch it and then automatically delete it, choose “All unplayed episodes.” To automatically delete all older episodes, choose “Most recent episode” or “Last 2-10 episodes."
Just a couple of easy tips to help keep your iPod and iTunes podcast library well organized! By the way, in case you missed it, our last post had links to thousands of comedy video podcasts. So clear out your iPod and get ready for some fun!

Results Of Our Flash-ier iPod Quiz

Posted on Feb 28, 2010 under ipod software | No Comment adobe flash apple iphone mobile safariA couple of posts ago, we had had a quiz asking iPoders whether they wanted to have Flash on their iPods. Reports from Apple suggest that they don't think its necessary! When we checked out the results we just saw a long string of "yeses". In fact, a massive 94.59% of people who responded to our quiz said "yes"! The people have spoken, Apple, time to pay heed. Adobe figures have been backed up by our research.

Free iPod Touch Videos - Tutorials

Posted on Feb 19, 2010 under free iPod stuff, ipod movies | No Comment  iTunesU sometimes has some pretty neat free stuff - music, videos and podcasts mainly. But well worth checking out from time to time as so e of the universities that supply free downloads for iPods have a big budget and produce some quality stuff. We have done many posts telling you all about some great free podacsts in the past. But the iTuneU offers some excellent free iPod videos. The iPodbomb team  does keep an eye out on  iTunesU  and just found another bunch of free videos we though worthy of your attention:

This collection of free video tutorials is quite useful, we thought, as more and more of our readers are upgrading to the Touch. If you have recently done so, then you really should check this lot out as they show us how to best use the iPod Touch.

Would You Like A Flash-ier iPod?

Posted on Feb 12, 2010 under ipod software | No Comment adobe flash apple iphone mobile safariThe latest news flash from around the web is that (according to Adobe) over 7 million iPhone and iPad users requested the Adobe Flash download in December! Now, the lack of flash on our smart tech devices from Apple, has been a sore point for many.  And so Adobe is kinda rubbing Apples' nose in it when it reports these figures: "Hey guys, there is clearly a BIG demand for flash" Apple are way too market savvy NOT to know that there are a LOT of people who would like to have flash capabilities installed inside the iPhone and iPod operating software. So why have they resisted? Well, various reasons have been proposed:
* because it needed to establish its own Apple-controlled iPhone SDK * to lower the chances of users using the app store, thus lowering Apple’s revenues. * Flash crashes so often that Apple's engineers went out of their way to create a new mechanism for running plugins
This is a subject dear to the hearts of many a techy. But do we iPod users care? Is it such a big deal for us? Do we evden know what difference it would make to what we can do, or listen to or watch on our iPods? We thought we would just ask!

Free iPod Games Demos

Posted on Feb 04, 2010 under free downloads, ipod games | No Comment Unlike the great selection of free games available for iPod Touch, the games on offer for the non-Touch iPods cost $$$. Worse still, there are only about 50 games to choose from. And all except two of them (Reversi and Chinese Checkers that cost $.99) cost $4.99 - at least, in the US.  And to add insult to injury, it is quite hard to find these games in iTunes. (To save you the aggravation, the iPodbomb team have provided  iTunes link for you). But, lets face it, these $$ games are no comparison with even the free games on offer for the Touch. It just ain't fair!! Well, we have something to ease the pain a little. Thirteen of the non-Touch iPod games are made by Electronic Arts (yep, one of the game developers invited by Apple to preview a game on the about-to-be released iPad). Electronic Arts (Mobile) have kindly provided free iPod Game demos of their games. Which means we can trial these games before we shell out $$ just to find we hate the game! Just download the free demo player, choose the game you want to try out - and play!
